Nairobi, Kenya-Bolt has discontinued the services of more than 5,000 drivers from its platform in the past six months following non-compliance and safety-related matters.

As a leading demand mobility platform on the African content, Bolt has taken serious measures to ensure safety on its platform while also setting aside over Ksh 20 million to bolster its safety features and measures.

Bolt’s Country Manager Linda Ndungu has said, “At Bolt, the safety of all users on our platform is our top priority. We understand the trust our users place in us, and we are taking proactive steps to ensure their well-being during every ride.”

She added, “Our enhanced safety measures and stricter compliance measures, coupled with technology-driven solutions, reaffirm our commitment to providing a secure and reliable transportation experience for all.”

Bolt continues to block drivers and riders permanently reported for any misconduct, from accessing the platform in a bid to enhance safety and improve the trip experience of users on its platform.

Other Bolt measures in place for improved safety and compliance

The company is leveraging cutting-edge technology to monitor and evaluate user behaviour, ensuring swift action in response to any identified safety concerns. For instance, Bolt introduced the driver selfie check feature that discourages cases of driver impersonation and account sharing.

Bolt also has a comprehensive awareness and training program for riders and drivers. This aims to raise awareness about safety best practices, emphasising the importance of respectful and responsible behaviour on the platform and highlighting the how-to of using the in-app safety features.

With stricter compliance measures, any driver or rider found in violation of safety standards and being non-compliant will face swift and decisive consequences, including permanent suspension from the platform.

Furthermore, Bolt’s advanced reporting mechanisms intend to empower users to report safety concerns more efficiently. In that regard, the entity has enhanced its safety features to facilitate improved detection and provide clear, user-friendly prompts for both riders and drivers.

That way, there is easy in-app communication in case of any issues during a trip for timely assistance. The company also has social media support available in-app.
