NAIROBI, Kenya – Daniel Lyula Khamasi, a former member of the National Assembly, is dead.
The politician died on the morning of Tuesday, December 30, 2025, while undergoing treatment in Nairobi.

He served for two consecutive terms as a Member of the National Assembly for Shinyalu Constituency in Kakamega County.
While confirming Khamasi’s death, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa said, “I have received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of Hon. Daniel Khamasi, former MP for Shinyalu.”
Governor Barasa eulogised the deceased as a dedicated servant whose contribution to Shinyalu will be remembered.
“Heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Shinyalu. May his soul rest in peace,” added Governor Barasa.
Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy pronounced dead
Khamasi’s passing occurs precisely one week after the passing of Dr Enoch Kibunguchy, a former Lugari MP.
On Tuesday morning, December 23, a number of lawmakers and family members announced the news, and prominent people sent their condolences to his family.
“Another tree has fallen. The bigger Lugari has been defeated. “We are once again in mourning,” stated Philip Etale, director of ODM Communications.
Lugari constituency suffers double tragedy
According to the ODM Communications Director, the announcement was made before the funeral of former Lugari MP and Cabinet Minister Cyrus Jirongo, who was replaced in the 2002 General Election by Dr. Enoch Wamalwa Kibunguchy. He observed that the area had fallen into mourning once more.
Following a period of illness, Dr Kibunguchy passed away on Monday night in a hospital in Eldoret.
His passing occurred a few days after that of Cyrus Jirongo, a member of parliament representing Lugari and a Cabinet minister, which was a devastating event for the area.
Kenyans and political figures extended condolence messages to the former legislator’s family after learning about the tragedy.
