The government has released over Ksh 2 billion Inua Jamii funds to beneficiaries for the month of November, with payments to begin on December 4.
Every registered Inua Jamii beneficiary will receive Ksh 2,000 for the just concluded month. The beneficiaries of the initiative include senior citizens, persons living with disabilities, and vulnerable households.
According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, KSh 2,095,360,000 has been disbursed to Kenyans under the Inua Jamii programme, and a further Ksh 6, 118,000 for the Nutrition Improvement through Cash and Health Education (NICHE).
Following a presidential directive in July this year, beneficiaries have been receiving payments on a monthly basis.
Inua Jamii is a government cash transfer programme that supports the most vulnerable members of the community by providing them with a stipend to cushion them from poverty and hunger to improve their lives.
According to Citizen Digital, over 1 million more Kenyans registered for the Inua Jamii program before the end of September, and currently, the government allocates an annual budget of Ksh.26 billion to sustain vulnerable Kenyan citizens through the Inua Jamii cash program.
With the harsh economic times in the country that have seen companies lay off employees to stay in business, more Kenyans might need financial support from the government and Ksh 2,000 a month might not be enough.
