The Ministry of Agriculture has set aside KShs. 80 billion to build small dams across the country, which will help mitigate drought.

This is according to Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri.

Speaking to journalists, CS Kiunjuri said the move aims to address water shortage, which has caused increased
food insecurity.

Last month, the CS said his ministry will build 31 dams in drought affected regions, to help minitgate the situation within a period of two weeks.

The drought affected more tha one million Kenyans, with some cases of hunger-related death reported.

However, the government refuted the claims adding that it had the capacity to mitigate the drought.

This came amidist Arror and Kimwarer dam saga, that saw Shs. 21 million uncounted for in the Shs. 66 million project that was set to salvage water shortage and help in irrigation.

Despite the ongoing investigation into the misappropriation of
funds involving the two dams, Kiunjuri insisted that his ministry will construct
4000 dams in Machakos, Samburu, Tharaka Nithi, Baringo, Isiolo, Laikipia, Meru,
Embu, Nakuru, and Baringo counties
