After Bob Collymore passed away on Monday, Safaricom has
appointed Michael Joseph as the interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Joseph, 67, had previously served the telecommunication
company in the same role from July 2000 to November 2010 before Collymore took
over. He is the chairperson of the board of Kenya Airways.
The acting CEO is a United States citizen with a degree in
Electrical Engineering from the University of Cape Town. During his tenure at
Safaricom he raised the number of subscribers from less than 20, 000 to
16.71million.
Collymore succumbed to cancer (myeloid leukemia) on Monday July
1, 2019 with the news shocking many.
