MOMBASA, Kenya – Co-operative CS Wycliffe Oparanya has called on SACCOs to embrace technology for convenient member service, bearing in mind the cyber threats.

Speaking during the opening ceremony for Stima Sacco 2026 Annual Delegates Conference in Mombasa, on Monday, October 27, Oparanya acknowledged that technology will remain central to competitiveness in the financial space.
“Members increasingly expect to transact conveniently, receive timely information and obtain assistance without unnecessary travel. SACCOs must invest in reliable management information systems, automation and secure digital channels that improve this experience,” said Oparanya.
CS Oparanya further explained that convenience must be matched by security and inclusion, calling for cybersecurity, data protection, fraud prevention and tested recovery arrangements for the protection of members’ resources.
“Educate members on safe transactions and ensure that assistance is available when something goes wrong. At the same time, maintain practical access for members with limited connectivity, limited digital skills or disabilities,” he said.
The CS applauded Stima Sacco for taking the necessary steps in prudent management, use of technology in ensuring convenient member service and cybersecurity plans, which have seen it attain about KSh 75.27 billion in assets during the Financial Year 2025
“Your Strategic Plan for 2025 to 2029, including the ambition to reach KSh 113.5 billion in assets, depends on good governance. You carry the voice of members into this institution and return to them with an account of the decisions made,” he said.
Stima DT Sacco Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Gamaliel Hassan affirmed the SACCO’s focus on sustainable growth, stronger revenue streams, operational efficiency and prudent risk management.
“We are committed to strengthening our competitiveness, improving productivity and ensuring that our growth translates into meaningful financial benefits for our members. Ultimately, our success will be measured not only by our financial performance but also by the value we create for our membership,” said Dr Hassan.

The CEO noted that technology remains central to Stima SACCO’s transformation agenda, aimed at enhancing convenience, accessibility and operational efficiency.
Stima Sacco board Chairman Joseph Siro attributed the society’s outstanding performance over the years to member loyalty and prudent management.
“Stima DT Sacco is one of the largest cooperatives in Kenya and Africa. This did not happen by chance, it came from careful management, prudent decisions and the loyalty of our members over many years. You have been a part of that journey… represented here are many who have contributed to where the Sacco is today,” he said.
Stima SACCO’s annual delegates meeting 2026, marked under the theme, “From Strategy to Impact”, showcased the society’s responsibility to translate institutional priorities into measurable results, improved service delivery and greater value for members.
The three-day programme provided an opportunity to deepen understanding of the cooperative sector, strengthen financial stewardship and improve representation.
