A Streamer’s Guide to the Tokyo Olympics 2020

The year 2020 was supposed to be the year of the Olympic Games.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, though, this was postponed among other sports
events and organized gatherings worldwide.

Even though the COVID-19 situation is not over yet, all
indications point to the fact that the games will hold anyway.

A long-serving committee member has commented that only an event as grave as Armageddon could stop the
Olympics from happening.

That said, here’s a guide to streaming Olympics 2021 and enjoying all that it has to offer from anywhere in the
world.

When do the Olympics
kick-off?

The events are set to start on 2 July and end by 8 August. All of
the sports and events will be held in the country’s capital city alone.
Contenders in the Paralympics will commence their events on the 24th of August and round-up by the 5th of September.

Can you travel to
watch the games?

Unless you are one of the selected athletes, Tokyo isn’t taking
any international visitors to watch the games.

There is a high chance that they only allow the athletes and their
teams, not even fan clubs, to support them.

This comes as a security measure to ensure there is no restart of
the coronavirus cases again, which will be deadly. It is unsure whether local
fans will be allowed into the stadiums to watch the games at this point.

That is why streaming from home is your best option – for the
convenience and reach to different markets.

Where can you watch
the Olympics?

Broadcasting networks have jostled and paid for rights to show the
games to their audiences from all over the world already. Like with most years,
though, NBC has secured the rights to broadcast all of the games.

However, note that not all of these networks will have all of the
content. Some of them will only be able to broadcast sporting events involving
their counties, blacking out the rest. If you were traveling, you might also be
hit by geo-blocking, which prevents you from watching these games from wherever
you are.

That is why we recommend trying out streaming platforms
instead.

Even if you are not in a supported broadcasting region, get a VPN
to connect to such a region, and you are good to go.

What’s new this year?

The Olympics are always a fine place to unearth new talents, break
records and see breakout characters in the world of sports. For this year, the
Tokyo Olympics will be introducing four new events to spice things up even
further.

These events will be karate, skateboarding, surfing, and sport
climbing.

Likewise, Tokyo sees the return of baseball and softball removed
from the Olympic schedule in the past.

Existing sports content within the Olympics schedule will also see
some minor tweaks and adjustments. For example, we know that there will be a
new form of basketball (3-on-3) to look forward to.

Get Strapped

With everything that we have seen so far, these Olympics are
shaping up to be a success.

Athletes have trained and planned for this for a long time, and
their showcase is overdue at the moment. Even if they might not have the power
of fans in-stadium behind them, they will give their all to secure the maximum
wins for their countries.

Strap in with your favorite streaming device, check the Olympics calendar for updates, and prepare to enjoy one of the biggest sports events for
the year.
