Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has urged players to continue with their
training sessions remotely, even as the International Olympics Committee (IOC)
postponed the summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
KRU chairman said the decision by IOC and Tokyo 2020 organizing
committee is well-reached, following the current status across the world
resulting from the unprecedented spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
“The resulting scenario is difficult as both our men’s and
women’s teams had qualified in good time and were well into their preparation
for the event. We will however have to reshape our calendars as we await
further information,” KRU said in a statement.
KRU chairman Oduor Gangla said; “We support the IOC’s
decision. It is a decision that prioritizes player welfare, fan safety and
social responsibility. As a result, our players will continue with their remote
training programs.”
The union urged the public to continue following the guidelines
set by the ministry of health in dealing with the pandemic.
