Deep cut for Solskjaer as United squashed by Wolves

It was a memorable blow to Manchester United interim boss Ole Gunner Solskjaer even as Wolverhampton bundled the Red Devils out of the FA cup finals on Saturday.

Solskjaer admitted that this was the poorest performance since he took charge of United, following last Sunday 2-0 defeat at Arsenal.

“It was a big step backwards. That’s the poorest performance since I’ve come here. The lack of urgency going forward, lack of forward passing, lack of regains.” said Solskjaer.

The Norwegian added that United deserved this results as “last week we were happy with the performance,” and we have much to play for in the coming months.

“We got what we deserved today because we never deserved to win this game.”

“We’ve got so much to play for.

“Manchester United, in April and May, always find our form.

“We can’t wait for the challenge for third.

“It will be nice when Barcelona come. We have so many highlights to look forward to.” said Solskjaer, 46-year-old.

Wolves totally outplayed the Red Devils in the second half by scoring 2-1 to reach their first FA Cup semi final for 21 years, courtesy of goals by Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota.

Wolverhampton manager Nuno Espirito Santo lauded his boys for the victory under lights that will bring back the teams memories of 1960s and win back their fans.

“It means a lot because we know how big Wolves were in the 1950s and 1960s and there are people in the stadium who have memories of that.

“To give them back this joy, and to see people going out with a smile — and a lot of beer — was good.

“To try to achieve the same is much harder now but we will try.” said Santo.

Meanwhile, Milwall clash on Sunday with Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion in the final quarters match match of the FA Cup.

Manchester City qualified to the semi final round beating Swansea City 3-2 even as Watford took an early lead of 2-1 against Crystal Palace.
