How Women’s 5000 meters final went down as Hellen Obiri defends title

Defending
champion Hellen Obiri walked away with a gold medal in a World
Championships Record of 14:26.72 on Saturday.

Her
compatriot Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi claimed silver in a time of
14:27:49, overtaking Germans Konstanze Klosterhalfen who earned
bronze medal at the time of 14:28:43.

Obiri
took the lead from the start, overwhelming Klosterhalfen challenge at
3000 meters, towards the end as Chelimo took note of the bell and
overpowered Ethiopian Gemechu.

Gemechu
came in fourth at the time of 14:29:60 with a third Kenyan Lilian
Rengeruk closing up the top five at the time of !4:36:05

The
competition was tight with Obiri, Chelimo and Rengeruk taking on 11
other athletes.

Meanwhile,
in Women’s 1,500 meters final, 2017 champion Faith Kipyegon
finished second at a time of 3:54:22, taking home a silver medal

Netherlands
Sifan Hassan surged to her second gold medal of the World
Championships.

The
26-year-old Ethiopian-born Dutch runner took lead in a world leading
championship record time of 3: 51:95.

Ethiopia’s
Gudaf Tsegay walked away with a bronze medal at the time of 3:54:38
as Kenyan Winny Chebet coming in at position seven clocking a time of
3:58:20.
