Milk farmers have a reason to smile after Brookside announced a bonus for the year ending December 2023.

The milk processing company said it will pay farmers KSh 323 million in bonuses under a reward scheme that recognised its contracted farmers across the country.

Farmers who supplied the company with the products between June 2023 and November 2023 will receive KSh 182 million bonus.

How many dairy farmers receive Brookside bonuses?

Brookside Milk Procurement General Manager Emmanuel Kabaki acknowledged the significance of the reward scheme that enables it to tap high-quality milk from farmers.

“The farmer groups and individual suppliers who benefitted are those who signed up for our reward scheme and were given raw milk supply targets, for both quantity and quality. We are rewarding these farmers as a recognition of their toil in meeting these targets,” said Kabaki in a statement released on Friday, December 8.

Kabaki said the payout has been growing every year as the processor’s base of contracted farmers continues to grow.

In the first half of the year, the company paid KSh 138 million to dairy farmers, which makes the total bonus payout to KSh 323 million.

The company boasts 160,000 milk farmers from across the country, signed up for the reward scheme.

“The reward is a demonstration of our excellent working relationship with all our 160,000 raw milk suppliers across the country,” he said.

Brookside initiatives growing farmers base

The General manager revealed that the company spent over KSh 30 million on farmer extension services to consolidate its market leadership position in the country.

Kabaki added that the extension services including farmer training have benefited about 35,000 dairy farmers.

In collaboration with farmers, the processor established fodder for dairy cows and improved breed genetics through support with semen straws.

Other engagements with dairy farmers include afforestation initiatives for sustainable dairy production and an increase in tree cover.
