Original scripts of two UK-set episodes of the popular sitcom ‘Friends’ will be auctioned for over 600 pounds.
They were used for filming the two-part season finale titled ‘The One With Ross’s Wedding.
According to the auction house, the scripts, which were rescued from a studio bin, should have been destroyed to prevent giving away episode endings.
The scripts are expected to sell for between £600 and £800 (around Ksh 120,000 to Ksh 160,000) and will be auctioned on January 12 alongside a production hoodie and a Friends DVD box set.
As the BBC reports, the Season Four finale drafts were recovered in 1998 by a staff member at Fountain Studios, Wembley, where the two episodes were filmed.
Amanda Butler, of Hanson Ross auctioneers in Royston, Hertfordshire, said the scripts should have been destroyed ‘so the ending wouldn’t be leaked’.
The seller of the scripts worked at Fountain Studio until 1999 but had kept them in a bedside drawer before having a clear-out.
“When I came to clear my desk I just swept everything into a big cardboard box. I forgot the scripts were there. They ended up in a bedside drawer and they’ve been there ever since. I could have quite easily thrown them out.”
“These scripts deserve to be owned by a big Friends fan.”
Ms Butler added that fans may exceed the estimate auction.
‘Friends’ comedy series
‘Friends’ is a sitcom you want to watch when you need to laugh hard. The main cast includes Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt Le Blanc.
It offers 10 seasons of laughter with the characters going through different challenges in life. Aniston plays Rachel, Perry is Chandler, Courtney is Monica, Kudrow is Phoebe, and Matt is Joey.
The sitcom aired from 1994 until 2004 with its finale watched by 52.5 million people in the US, making it the most watched TV episode of the 2000s.
Mathew Perry passed away in his LA home pool in October 2023. Medical examiners In Los Angeles concluded that his death was caused by ‘acute effects of ketamine’, adding that drowning was a contributing factor as well.
