NAIROBI, Kenya – Shoppers at The Hub Karen can now combine family outings with fitness activities as the mall expands its wellness programme through partnerships with fitness and recovery businesses.

The initiative was showcased during the Hub Fit at The Hub Karen Wellness Day on October 10, 2026, organised in partnership with Nyumbani Active and RecoverX.
The event brought together participants for workouts, spin sessions, mobility exercises and activities targeting families.
The programme builds on Hub Fit, which was launched in April in collaboration with Decathlon, Smart Gyms, Healthy U and Nairobi Sports House.
Ruth Wako, Sales and Marketing Manager at The Hub Karen, said wellness is one of the mall’s main focus areas alongside food. Through the activities, the centre aims to give visitors more reasons to spend time there while accessing different services.
“The family-focused programme allows parents to join fitness sessions as children engage in activities suited to them. Families can then continue with shopping, dining and other experiences at the mall.
“The wellness day was part of an ongoing programme rather than a standalone event. The mall had planned a cycling activity for the following weekend and another fitness day later in October, with expectations of involving more tenants and shoppers,” said Ruthc, in a statement seen by News9.africa.
Elijah Ongeri, Head of Operations at Nyumbani Active, said the partnership was intended to make exercise accessible to people who may not regularly visit gyms.
Nyumbani Active helped organise the day’s programme, which included running and spin activities.
“Our organisation offers free bodyweight training programmes that participants can follow at home online, as well as coaching for people preparing for competitions such as HYROX,” Said Ongeri.
He advised beginners to start at a manageable level, either with a coach or through home-based exercises, and choose routines that fit their circumstances so they can maintain consistency.
Competitive fitness
The organisation also organises competitive fitness activities.
“There will be a Full Strength Edition, a team-based strength and conditioning competition scheduled for November 7, with awards for the top-performing teams,” he said.
Alongside exercise, the wellness programme also highlighted the role of recovery in physical training.
Speaking at the event, Laura Omogo, owner of RecoverX, said the business supplies portable recovery equipment for athletes and gym enthusiasts, including sauna blankets and compression equipment for the body and knees.
“Recovery should complement exercise, nutrition and sleep. As someone who combines running and other cardiovascular activities with strength training while balancing work and motherhood, recovery is an important part of managing an active routine,” she said.
She also pointed to growing communities around running, CrossFit and HYROX as opportunities for businesses offering products and services to active consumers.
“By attending fitness events and following recovery technologies used in other markets, Recover X seeks ideas that could be introduced in Kenya,” she said.
According to Laura, the business has plans for development, although the pace of expansion will depend on available finances.
The mall plans to continue hosting wellness events through October as it seeks to attract more visitors and participation from its tenants.
