Simiyu Robinson Wanjala from
Murang’a High School in Murang’a County tops in KCSE 2020 with 87.334points.

According to the education Cabinet
Secretary Prof. George Magoha 893 candidates scored A plain while 223
candidates with special needs obtained C+ and above.

CS Magoha announcing from Mtihani
house said the results were for the 747,171 students who sat for their exam
after a nine months break due to the global corona Virus pandemic, as the 2020
candidates said to perform better than the 2019 candidates.

Bungoma is the leading county in
the country in the number of candidates who did their exams while at the
hospital after delivery at 43 candidates, Meru 38, Nakuru 36 Nandi and Kisii
among them mentioned by the CS, with a total number of 652 candidates sitting
for exams after delivery.

The CS called on government
officials together with parents to fight the menace and finding out the root
cause of high numbers of pregnant girls in schools, adding that it is a
collective responsibility, with the closure of schools for 9 months being the
root cause.

“We have noted that the number of cases of
candidates sitting for exams after delivery went up in 2020 and this could be
attributed to the long closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those candidates waiting to join form one in
July to have something to do,” said CS Magoha.

Last year, the number of teenage
pregnancies recorded was high with Bungoma and Kakamega counties topping the
least over the lockdown period.

Prof. George Magoha has urged
parents to teach their girls’ matters behavior.

“Girls of my age carried themselves
with dignity, weren’t they humans? So why do we have cases of girls delivering
while doing their exams? Dear parents teach your girls to behave. They can
control their feelings,” said CS Magoha.

287 results have been canceled, 211
students according to the CS Magoha, had unauthorized materials, including
writings on white shirts, and 45 mobile phones were confiscated during the exam
period.

Bungoma County also had the highest
number of underage candidates with Turkana County having the highest overage
candidates.
