NAIROBI, Kenya – Nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri has urged students to remain focused, disciplined and determined as they pursue their dreams.
The youthful senator revealed that through her Essy Okenyuri Nyaituga Foundation, she remains committed to mentoring and empowering young people by promoting education, leadership and active citizenship.
“Seeing young learners take a keen interest in the work of Parliament is always inspiring. Their curiosity and eagerness to learn confirm that the future of our country is in safe hands,” said the senator nominated on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
Senator Okenyuri made the remarks this week when she joined her fellow lawmakers in welcoming a group of students and teachers from different learning institutions, including Itibo Boarding and Primary Junior School in Monyerero Ward, Kitutu Chache North Constituency, to the Senate of Kenya during their educational tour.
“Creating opportunities for learners to interact with public institutions is part of our broader mission to inspire them to dream bigger, lead with integrity and realise their full potential,” added the vice chairperson of the Senate Committee on Trade, Industrialisation and Tourism.
Why MPs host students at the precincts of Parliament
Members of Parliament (MPs) regularly host school students at the Parliament Buildings in Nairobi to provide practical exposure to governance, democracy, and the legislative framework.
Over the past week, several lawmakers welcomed multiple institutions to the August House to bridge the gap between classroom civic education and real-world legislative proceedings.
Alongside Senator Beatrice Ogolla, Senator Mohamed Faki, Senator Catherine Mumma and Senator Karen Nyamu, Senator Okenyuri also welcomed the students and teachers of Uganda Martyrs Mirogi Boarding School from Homa Bay County to the Senate.
“It is always inspiring to see young minds eager to learn about our parliamentary structure and the important role it plays in strengthening our democracy. Their curiosity and enthusiasm reaffirm the belief that our county has strong minds that will catapult it to greatness in the years ahead,” added the senator, a member of the Finance and Budget, Powers and Privileges Committees.
She indicated that for the Essy Okenyuri Nyaituga Foundation, the fraternity remains committed to nurturing, mentoring and inspiring young people across Kenya.
“Our impact knows no boundaries as we continue to extend our reach beyond county lines by empowering students and supporting schools across the nation in the broader objective of investing in the leaders of tomorrow,” said the lawmaker.
Parliament as the home of Kenya’s democracy
The senator also hosted students and teachers from Itibo Boarding and Primary Junior School in Monyerero Ward, Kitutu Chache North Constituency, at the Senate.
In addition, she also received students and teachers of Father Joseph Oucho Girls Junior School from Ichuni Ward in Nyaribari Masaba Constituency, led by the principal, Sister Janet, to the precincts of Parliament during their educational tour.
“I am delighted to welcome them as they explore the home of Kenya’s democracy and gain firsthand insight into the work of Parliament and the legislative process,” she further said.
Essy Okenyuri delighted by the students’ determination
Also this week, Senator Okenyuri engaged with the students and teachers of Father Joseph Oucho Girls Junior School from Ichuni Ward in Nyaribari Masaba Constituency at the Senate.
“Their curiosity, confidence and thirst to learn were truly inspiring and reaffirmed my belief that the future of our country is bright. Watching these young girls engage with the workings of Parliament and ask thoughtful questions was a reminder of the immense potential that lies within our next generation,” explained the Senate.
According to the senator, moments like these are essentially meaningful because through the Essy Okenyuri Nyaituga Foundation, she is committed to mentoring, inspiring and empowering young people to dream bigger, embrace leadership and pursue excellence without limits.
“I thank the teachers of Father Joseph Oucho Girls Junior School, led by the principal, Sister Janet, for ensuring the girls grow upright by inculcating proper values into them,” said Senator Okenyuri.
