As the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases rise to 184 in the
country, the Ministry of Health has urged citizens in the juakali industry to
observe the stipulated guidelines to curb the spread of the virus.
Speaking during the ministry of health briefing, Cabinet Secretary
Mutahi Kagwe has emphasized that
barbers, hair dressers, and mama mboga should follow the recommended safety regulations
including social distancing, wearing masks, and fumigating their premises to help
contain the spread of Coronavirus.
The CS noted that some boda boda operators are not adhering
to the various directives to help prevent the spread of the virus, while some
of them are involved in helping people sneak in and out of counties with travel
restriction. He added that other riders are carrying more than one passenger
He urged compliant operators to compel their defiant colleagues
to follow government directives, which include wearing masks and carrying one
person at a time.
Kagwe revelead that in the last 24 hours, 308 samples have
been tested and five turned out positive for Covid-19 and the people have been isolated.
Out of the five three are from Nairobi County while two are from Mombasa County.
Three have a travel history to Tanzania, the UK, and the United Arab Emirates.
So far, Kenya has 184 positive cases of coronavirus with 107
being males and 77 females. In total, 12 people have so far recovered from the
disease.
However, one person died in Mombasa and it is through postmortem
that the health workers realized he had the Coronavirus.
The CS urged Kenyans to remain vigilant in the fight against
Covid-19. Two mandatory quarantine facilities Trademark and Hill Park hotels
have been closed and more will be shut down tonight. Kagwe advised Kenyans not
to stigmatize people who have been released from quarantine facilities after
they tested negative for the virus.
