Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has urged the National Government
to get a lasting solution for the border conflict between the ongoing Kakamega
and Nandi Counties residents.

The Kakamega County governor who was accompanied by
Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, regretted the recent attacks at
the Kakamega-Nandi border which left two people dead saying it is not good for
the neighboring communities to fight each other over land.

 “We have had several
meetings with leaders and elders from both sides to solve the conflict but we
are yet to get a permanent solution. I request the National Government to
intervene and offer a permanent solution for this conflict,” said Oparanya.

The county boss said it is regrettable for neighbours to clash
over land.

“It is not good for neighbors to fight and kill each other.
They are all our people and I regret we lost lives in the clashes that happened
recently,” he said after flagging off food donation to be distributed to flood
victims within the county.

Devolution cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa in red flags off trucks containing relief food to be distributed to the Kakamega county floods victims.

Devolution minister Eugene Wamalwa urged the two communities
living at the border to embrace peaceful coexistence.

He assured that together with his Lands counterpart Farida
Karoney will meet with leaders from both Kakamega and Nandi counties with the
aim of finding a lasting solution.

“We are aware of the ongoing skirmesh between the twi
communities and we don’t want to hear that communities are embroiled in land
tussles with each other especially when the country is embracing the building
bridges initiative (BBI)and We we are calling on all the leaders from both
communities to stop inciting the locals and instead advocate for a better
coexistence among the groups.

We need peace so that we can be able to realize development
plans for this country,” said Wamalwa.

Also present were Trans Nzoia senator Michael Mbito, former
MPs; Fred Gumo and Noah Wekesa.
