Kisii County Disaster and Response Emergency Team has donated
foodstuffs to each of the families who
are affected by landslides and floods due to ongoing heavy rains

Speaking during the flagging off of the good stuffs and beddings,
CEC finance Moses Onderi said that the affected families called for
humanitarian aid and they responded immediately.

Mr Onderi said families in parts of Bomachoge Chache, Bomachoge
Borabu, South Mugirango Kitutu Chache South and Kitutu Chache North have
relocated to higher grounds following floods occasioned by the ongoing heavy
rains on law levels.

Over 2000 affected families have moved to the nearby school
after their homes were covered and some swept by flood water.

“We appeal to people of goodwill to come out and assist
these families undergoing untold suffering due to this rainy season,” he said.

He also said the government will continue to conduct food
distribution to the displaced families in three phases.

The donation will be dispatched in three phases, with the first
phase targeting those without homes, who will receive the donations and the remaining
to target the needy communities.

Nyacheki MCA Caleb Ong’uti and Sensi ward MCA Paul Angwenyi appealed
to the government to look for alternative land to accommodate the affected
persons who lost their homes, crops and animals, as a permanent solution was
being sought.

The victims were given food, mattresses, mosquito nets and blankets.

The County secretary Mr. Patrick Lumumba said that the county
boss James Ongwae together with the National government are following up on a
permanent solution.

Mr Lumumba warned that the floods could continue till June.

“Ward administrators will oversee the distribution of food
stuffs and beddings to ensure they have reached to the targeted people,
“he said.

Josephine Ombati asked the residents to maintain the set government
guidelines and avoid markets at all costs.

She said the county government has plans to open markets in
the near future.
