The government has warned that the flood situation in the
country is waning with the number of deaths rising from 194 to 237.
In the months of April, which is the short rainy season, thousands
of people have been displaced, and properties drown in the floods.
Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa has said that affected
households in the country due to floods has also increased to 161,000.
The CS said that the government is taking all means to
caution the affected families, urging those leaving in flood areas to move to
higher grounds.
The floods have affected more than 29 counties of West Pokot,
Elgeyo Marakwet, Busia, Siaya, Migori, Homa Bay, Kisumu among others.
In Eastern Kenya, the Turkwel Gorge and Masinga dams have
filled to maximum capacity causing floods in surrounding areas.
The heavy rains are expected to continue up to the months of
June.
