Kalonzo strongly criticises President Ruto over Jubaland forces’ occupation of Mandera

NAIROBI, Kenya – Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka has taken a stab at President William Ruto following reports that Jubaland forces have entered the Kenyan territory and occupied parts of Mandera County, displacing residents and disrupting daily life.

Kalonzo, while addressing journalists at the WPF headquarters in Nairobi, wondered why the head of state had remained silent on the matter.

“What we are witnessing in Mandera County is what is defined in International Law as Occupation. Mr Ruto, have you ceded the Kenyan territory to foreign troops? Is your regime too weak to defend Kenya’s territorial integrity?” Kalonzo paused.

The former vice president likened the occupation to several scandals that have rocked the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration since President Ruto ascended to power in September 2022.

“This occupational mentality is equally evident in respect to the East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC) and the Karura Forest saga. Mr Ruto, keep off our forests and lands,” Kalonzo further said.

The WPF boss’s remarks come barely hours after opposition leaders questioned the lack of response from Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya and President Ruto, warning that the continued presence of foreign troops threatens Kenya’s sovereignty and the safety of local communities.

For instance, former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, on Sunday, August 31, 2025, questioned CS Tuya for what he termed her “deafening silence” over the looming crisis in Mandera.

Wamalwa, the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) boss, argued that the country’s Defence chief should be at the forefront in publicly addressing the matter to protect Kenyans living along the border.

“It is a violation of our sovereignty and our territorial integrity. I am surprised that up to now, the Defence CS has not said anything, and we have not heard anything from the Kenya Defence Forces. Are they allowing Jubaland forces to operate within Kenyan territory?” he posed.

What Kalonzo thinks about political intolerance

While addressing the press on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Kalonzo observed that political intolerance has been on the rise in recent months.

“Every Kenyan has the right to be heard anywhere in the country. No one can claim to own Kenya. As WPF, we demand that security be provided to all citizens without discrimination,” he added.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged President William Ruto to deploy the Kenya Defence Forces to Mandera to expel Jubaland forces allegedly operating within the town.

Kalonzo further took issue with the Kenya Kwanza regime over the state of education in the country.

“Education is in shambles from primary through to the university. Pupils are being sent home for lack of school fees because of the government’s perpetual failure to release capitation funds to schools on time,” he said.

How Kalonzo reacted to the recent SHA scandal

In the case of the universities, Kalonzo stated that students have received SMS indicating that their accounts have been credited, only to be turned down on the date of admission.

“This false information is cruel to Kenyan families, but it is the unfortunate methodology of the Ruto regime. This must come to an end,” said the WPF leader.

Fellow Patriots,

There is something fundamentally wrong with the state of Kenya under the existing regime. Scandal after scandal and attempts to sell off Kenya’s crucial infrastructure on the cheap are the modus… pic.twitter.com/Mxd71KV2gb

He also criticised the government over the recent Social Health Authority (SHA) scandal, which has paralysed healthcare in some medical facilities.

“That Sh10.6 billion was embezzled to non-existent hospitals and fake patient files, while legitimate hospitals, many of which were founded by missionaries and faith-based groups years before our independence, were forced to close due to unpaid genuine claims, is inexplicable,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo, who was flanked by other party officials, urged all Kenyans of legal age to get their IDs and register as voters after IEBC announced the start of Voter Registration on September 29, 2025.

“This is the way we shall rescue and reclaim our beloved nation from the rotten regime,” said Kalonzo.
