Coronavirus infections in the country seems to be taking a different
course to the law income areas as the its numbers surge to 374.

Kawangware, a neighbouring slum to Kibra, today (Tuesday)
hit number 7, in the covid-19 cases watch.

This comes as 11 new cases were recorded out of 589 samples
tested in the last 24-hours.

Out of the 11 cases, 7 are from Nairobi and the remaining 4
from Mombasa.

The Nairobi cases comprises of 4 in Kawangware, Eastleigh
(1), Kaloleni (1) and Manji (1). The four cases bring to total 7 coronavirus
cases in Kawangware.

The government urge the public to observe and adhere to all
the measures set, including social distancing, washing of hands and wearing of
masks, to put covid-19 infections at bay.

Addressing the public, Health Chief Administrative Secretary
Dr. Rashid Aman said if Kenyans follow and observe the containment measures,
the disease can be wiped out for good.

“With proper management and care, Covid-19 is treatable.
There is no need to stigmatize the disease,” said Dr. Aman.

However, most slum residents seem not to understand these
measures. An expose by Citizen TV showed how people go about their normal
business life, in unaware of the ongoing pandemic.

Another challenge that could be speeding the virus
infections in slum areas is lack of adequate supply of water and closeness of
houses.

Meanwhile, 10 covid-19 patients were discharged summing up
the number of total recoveries to 124.

Dr. Aman further said the cases are distributed in the following
counties;

Nairobi – 241

Mombasa – 97

Homa Bay – 1

Kajiado – 3

Kakamega – 1

Kiambu – 5

Kilifi – 9

Kitui – 2

Kwale – 1

Mandera – 8
