KCSE 2023 results: Parents in Kakamega oust school principal over poor performance

Parents across the country continue to react to the recently released Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE) 2023 results.

Normal school activities were temporarily halted at St. Gabriel Isongo Secondary School in Mumias East, Kakamega County, after parents allegedly attacked the school principal, ousting him on the pretext of continuously recording poor KCSE results.

Why parents ousted school head after KCSE results

The angry parents arrived at the school at around 8 am and rushed to principal John Wafula’s office where they dismissed and blamed him over the school’s mediocre results.

“In the past, we used to score a mean of more than five points in KCSE before this teacher was appointed as the head teacher. Currently, we are struggling with a mean of less than 2 points”, said one of the parents.

The upset parents have linked the poor results to the teacher’s habit of frequently sending students at home.

“He has been sending students home for as little as KSh 200 balance, causing them to waste significant time on the road and at home – time that could have been spent studying,” mentioned another parent.

“Many students have ended up getting pregnant because they stayed at home for extended periods.” Another parent added.

Out of the 179 students who took the KCSE exam last year, only one achieved a C+, allowing direct entry to the university.

“The board, along with him, has been frequently changing teachers, adversely impacting students’ studies,” stated another parent.

The parents requested the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) to provide a new teacher, asserting that they will not hesitate to dismiss the teacher if he is maintained at the school.

Another school oust teacher over KCSE performance

In a similar incident, News 9 Kenya reported that parents in Moiben, Uasin Gishu County, ousted the Mafuta Secondary School Principal, following poor performance in the 2023 Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE).

The incident that happened on Thursday, January 11, saw enraged parents blockading the gates of Mafuta Secondary School demanding the removal of Chrispinus Mukenya, the Principal.

The parents claimed the school has been recording poor results since Mukenya was tenured in the school closely 7 years ago.
