NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya is set to take the global shooting stage by storm as a formidable squad of 29 sharpshooters heads to South Africa for the prestigious International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Handgun World Shoot Championship.

The championship, which runs from September 11th to 28th at the renowned Frontier Shooting Range in Matlosana, is the ultimate test of skill, speed, precision, and endurance, and proudly sits at the very top of the IPSC competition calendar.

According to Frank Ambundo, Regional Director of IPSC Kenya, this premier Level V championship will draw over 1,800 elite competitors from more than 50 nations, making it a spectacular convergence of the world’s best practical shooters.

“This is not just a competition, it’s where the world’s finest meet to push the limits of discipline, accuracy, and performance. Let us all rally behind Team Kenya as they hoist our flag high and prove that Kenya is ready to compete at the very highest level,” said Ambundo.

He emphasized that the IPSC Regional Directorate’s mandate is to identify, train, and prepare technically proficient shooters and certified match officials to represent the country on the global stage. This deliberate effort, he said, ensures that Kenya is not just participating but competing to win at the world’s most demanding shooting events.

What is he significance of the IPSC Handgun World Shoot

The IPSC Handgun World Shoot, held every three years since its inception in 1975 in Zurich, is considered the pinnacle of competitive practical shooting. Over several days and across at least 30 different courses of fire, competitors are tested under varying scenarios that challenge their physical and mental edge, from lightning-fast target transitions to precision shooting under pressure.

It was a distinct honor to attend the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Pre-World Shoot Match in Mombasa, graciously hosted by the @BamburiRifle Club, from September 4th to 7th, 2025.

Kenya’s participation signals a major milestone for the nation’s growing shooting sports community, reflecting years of investment in training, talent development, and international collaboration.

“This is a chance for the world to see Kenya’s emerging stars in action,” Ambundo added. “Our team is ready, motivated, and determined to make the country proud.”

With the countdown now underway, all eyes turn to Matlosana as Team Kenya prepares to write a new chapter in the country’s sporting history, one shot at a time.
