NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has finally spoken out after a social media user accused a member of the Social Health Authority (SHA) working at the facility of incompetence.
On the night of Thursday, November 13, 2025, an X user (formerly Twitter) posted @KinotiJoseph that he had been stuck at the medical facility Surgical Ward 4C, and he didn’t know what else to do.

“The SHA officer handling discharges at the 4D office is very rude, corrupt, and abusive. Since yesterday, I’ve been waiting in line to have my child discharged,” said @KinotiJoseph.
He lamented that the officer kept ignoring the queue and only attended to people she personally called aside – people she seemed to know.
“We’ve been here since yesterday, yet she just walks out, brings in others, processes them fast, and leaves the rest of us stranded,” he added.

While reacting to the incident, KNH Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Rishard Lesiyampye, acknowledged the incident.
“We wish to sincerely and unreservedly apologise to the affected family for the immense frustration and distress caused. The reported conduct is unacceptable and does not represent the values of the standard of care we are committed to providing at KNH,” explained Dr. Lesiyampe.
Which action has KNH taken on the matter
Further to this, he disclosed that the Hospital had taken immediate action.
“Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the KNH officer in question, who is part of the team handling SHA clearance with our HP policy,” the CEO added.

@KinotiJoseph had claimed through his now-viral post that when he politely told her that what she was doing was unfair, she got angry, banged her office door, and later called him inside.
“Inside, she fined me Ksh 2,070, saying my baby overstayed an extra day after discharge. I immediately rushed to Malipo Center downstairs and paid the amount, but when I came back, she said she wouldn’t discharge my baby unless I wrote an apology letter to her, stamped by the area Chief!” @KinotiJoseph further said.
How @KinotiJoseph stood his ground amid the melee
@KinotiJoseph maintains that he never insulted her or caused a scene.
“I only questioned her favouritism and suspicious behaviour. Right now, my baby is being held at KNH just because I refused to bow to corruption and humiliation. I’m pleading for help. Can the relevant authorities please intervene? This is unfair, and no parent should go through this kind of frustration when their child is in the hospital,” he further lamented.
However, Dr. Lesiyampe, through his statement shared on the facility’s social media platforms, confirmed that the patient has since been discharged.
“In addition, the reimbursement to the family has been initiated. We reiterate our commitment to upholding the highest levels of integrity, fairness and compassion for all our patients and their families,” Dr. Lesiyampe explained.
