Mokoywet Primary School has been closed temporarily until Monday after the body of a Grade 6 pupil was found on the ceiling of an ECDE classroom
Lessons at Mokoywet Primary School, Kimini Constituency, Trans Nzoia County were suspended after the body of a 12-year-old Grade 6 learner was found on the roof of one of the school’s classrooms.
Confirming this incident, the Police Commander in Kimini Area, John Onditi, said that the body of the late Trizah Naliaka was discovered by residents following a stench coming from one of the classes in the school,.
It was reported that the deceased disappeared from home in November last year immediately after the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations.
“A girl by the name Trizah Naliaka was found dead by the residents, the girl happens to be from Mokoywet Primary School in Waitaluk, and a grade 6 pupil who went missing last year November that is close to 2 months ago according to the mother. The body was found hidden in one of ECDE classrooms in the ceiling,” Mr. Ondit said.
“We are really in shock because of this unfortunate incident. Actually, the girl went missing in November last year after finishing her grade 6 assessment and she was set to join grade seven only to be found dead in the ceiling of one of the classrooms,” Muganda, a parent at the school added.
Mr. Ondit says the disturbing smell prompted the residents to trace the origin of the smell, where the lifeless body of the 12-year-old Trizah was discovered before alerting the security officials.
Onditi has asked parents to be careful with their children, asking them to report cases of children disappearing from home to prevent similar cases.
“We plead to parents to be watchful of their children, when a child disappears two three days, it’s crucial for the parent to file a report at the security officials for tracking and investigations to be done. Even immediate search from close relatives and friends should be picked up immediately, before being forwarded to the police for assistance to avoid such cases.”
Douglas Amadi, the school’s head, confirmed that the school was closed following a consultation between the school management, the Ministry of Education, and the African Inland Church (AIC) the school’s sponsor.
“Yes it is true we have closed the school until Monday next week following stakeholder’s consultations that resolved to close the school to pave the way for investigations,”
He added that the whole school will undergo counseling after the tragic incident witnessed by the pupils and teachers.
The body of the late pupil has been taken to the mortuary at the Referral Hospital in Kitale while the investigation continues.
