NAIROBI, Kenya – President William Ruto is heartbroken following the death of Winnie Nyambura, the sister of Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi.
In a statement shared on his official X account (formerly Twitter), the head of state encouraged the county boss to remain strong during this difficult time.
“May the Lord grant Governor Kimani Wamatangi strength to bear the loss of his dear sister, Winnie Nyambura,” President Ruto wrote.
In his own words, President Ruto went on: “The family, friends and the people of Kiambu are in our thoughts and prayers at this painful time. Rest In Peace, Winnie.”
On the morning of Friday, September 5, 2025, Governor Wamatangi took to his social media platforms to share the sad news of his sister’s demise.
“Death is cruel. It takes from us the people we love and cherish, leaving a hurting void. But we have to accept the will of God because it’s in him; we take comfort during such times. Rest in eternal peace, my sister, Winnie Peninah Nyambura,” Governor Wamatangi wrote.
As a family, Governor Wamatangi said they cherish the times God allowed them to be together.
“Go well, Nyambura,” Governor Wamatangi painfully mourned his sister.

Earlier, News Nine reported that President Ruto led the country in mourning the death of Mzee Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi, the father of National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who passed away at the age of 105.
In a message of condolence, President Ruto described Mzee Ngugi as an industrious and astute businessman who was among the brains behind the founding of Kikuyu Town.
The President noted that Mzee Ngugi touched many lives through his transformative initiatives, especially in supporting the vulnerable in society.
“Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends on the passing of Mzee Isaac Ngugi, the father of Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah. He was an industrious and astute businessman and one of the brains behind the founding of Kikuyu Town. Mzee touched many lives through his many transformative initiatives that supported the vulnerable. His legacy will live on. Rest in peace, Mzee,” the President said.

According to the family, the 105-year-old patriarch passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Kikuyu home on Thursday morning, September 4, following a week-long admission at Karen Hospital.
He had been unwell but remained in high spirits, spending his final days surrounded by family members.
His death has been described as the close of a remarkable chapter in Kenyan history, marking the end of a life that spanned more than a century and witnessed defining moments in the country’s political and social transformation.
