President Uhuru Kenyatta now wants all stakeholders who will
benefit from the 2019 population census results to effectively use the data in
successive planning that will benefit all Kenyans.
Speaking during the release of the results at State House on
Monday, President Uhuru said for the country to effectively achieve its
economic planning and expenditure, the census 2019 results must be utilized effectively.
“We direct all ministries, departments and government
agencies to utilize Census 2019 results in their planning processes,” said
President Uhuru.
He also urged county governments and other stakeholders to
utilize the results in their budgetary planning.
“I also urge county governments, stakeholders and development
partners to do the same. I call upon the KNBS to release all census volumes and
make them available to planners for successive planning that will benefit all Kenyans,”
he said.
The president also commended the whole exercise,
enumerators, officials and institutions that saw to its success.
“I thank all enumerators and officials involved in the
census process. I am grateful to all security personnel who ensured peace
prevailed during the census period. I’m proud to note that the mobile devices
used were assembled by our local universities,” said President Uhuru.
The 2019 population census recorded a total of 47,564,296 Kenyans
with 23 million people being male, 24m female and 1m representing the intersex
population.
In general, the number of male population stands at
23,548,056, female 24,014,716 and the intersex population at 1,524.
Counties with most population according to the result
include Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Kilifi.
