NAIROBI, Kenya – Erick Kirimi has emerged as the winner at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) golf tournament.

The corporate event, held on Friday, October 16, at the Vetlab Sports Club in Nairobi, attracted over 250 golfers, including corporate leaders, golfers and industry stakeholders.
Kirimi won the competition at handicap 23 with a score of 47 points. He attributed the win to game management and planning.
“I would attribute the win to several things. One is that, when it came to my tee shots, I hit most of the fairways; I didn’t have balls going to the rafts and also game management. Just making sure that when you don’t have a good shot, you’re able to come out and recover from it. And always being positive even when you have a bad shot, just making sure that you focus on the next goal,” Kirimi said during a presser attended by News9.africa.
Kirimi revealed that he started golfing about three years ago, some time after learning and gaining the game skills following his membership at the VetLab Sports Club in 2017.
KPA CEO Capt. William Ruto noted that the golf tournament remains a key component of the authority’s strategy in strengthening relationships with customers, partners and investors.
“Supporting golf is not simply about sponsoring a sporting event; it is about strengthening relationships with the people and organisations that contribute to the growth of trade, logistics and the wider economy,” said Capt. Ruto, in a speech read on his behalf by the General Manager Corporate Services Mr Edward Kamau.

He said the KPA annual golf tournament provides a platform for networking and discussions on opportunities within Kenya’s maritime, logistics and transport sectors.
The platform also identifies unique customer needs, strengthens relationships, enhances customer service delivery and advances KPA PLC’s strategic growth and development.
CSR for Nairobi Children’s Rescue Centre
As part of the event, KPA donated essential commodities worth KSh 500,000 to the Nairobi Children’s Rescue Centre.
About 100 children at the Centre have received essential items needed in their daily lives.
The CEO noted that the initiative demonstrates KPA’s collective responsibility to nurture, protect and empower children who need care, guidance and an environment that enables them to thrive.
