The Social Health Authority (SHA) has issued a public notice urging all members to carefully review their hospital bills and visit details each time they receive healthcare services at any SHA-contracted facility.
In the statement signed by Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, SHA emphasized the importance of verifying that every hospital visit is properly recorded in the SHA system on the actual date of service.
Members are also advised to check their bills before leaving healthcare facilities to ensure all services received are accurately captured and billed according to gazetted rates.
According to the notice, members will receive a confirmation message on their registered phone number once their visit has been entered into the system. SHA advises members to review the message details to confirm accuracy.
The Authority further cautioned that members should not incur additional costs resulting from billing errors or delays by healthcare providers. For procedures requiring preauthorization, members are urged to confirm that approval has been granted before undergoing treatment except in emergency cases.
SHA encouraged members to promptly report any discrepancies by contacting the healthcare facility directly or calling the Authority’s toll-free number 147 for assistance.
The notice underscores SHA’s commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in healthcare billing, ensuring that members receive fair and efficient services under Kenya’s new universal health framework.
