During this period when institutions of learning are closed
due to effects of COVID-19, University students from Kisii County have joined
hands with rest of society in creating awareness on how to gage and minimize
risks posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
On Thursday a group led by one of their team members, Martha
Nyanchama, the Vice President of Kenyatta University Student Association
(KUSA), distributed 400 masks within Nyamagesa sub location, Nyaribari Masaba
Constituency.
The group said it was targeting vulnerable communities
especially the elderly as they are at a higher risk of contracting the novel
coronavirus.
The students emphasized on the fact that this pandemic is
affecting both rich and poor, the black and white and appealed to residents to “protect
ourselves from this by observing various protocols from the Ministry of Health
such as the need to wear masks in public places, wash hands, sanitize and take
a proper diet”.
The students thanked Mac’Botongore, Deputy Director in
charge of Inua Jamii Programme, for supporting them and encouraging them to sensitize
residents against stigmatizing Covid-19 patients.
The students spread a message of hope to the community
adding that together, covid-19 will be defeated.
