BBI support could fall over calls for second public participation

The Building Bridges Initiative support is likely to decline
following Deputy President William Ruto allies calls to have it subjected to
the public participation for a second round.

Unlike the Punguza Mzigo initiative by the Third Way
Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot, BBI has been on the safer side receiving
approval from President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.

However, things could fall apart should the Tanga Tanga
faction win its bid to have the initiative re-subjected to public opinion.

According to Dr. Boni Khalwale, former Kakamega Senator, public
participation on BBI agenda was choreographed and they are not in any way going
to endorse it.

“So we are expected to endorse the BBI report! Never mind that:~the Handshake came as a complete surprise ~the BBI team was composed secretly~the nine point BBI agenda was drawn without reference to us~public participation over BBI agenda was choreographedAmazing! pic.twitter.com/rNgzXk3nMS

ODM leader Raila Odinga wants Kenyans to support the BBI
agenda, saying it will end politics of exclusion and foster unity in the
country.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has also backed the BBI saying its implementation
will end the divisive politics and create the right atmosphere for economic
development in the country.

The President also shunned off those claiming that the
initiative aims at creating him a premier position in government, saying that
he is ready to retire after his second term, which ends in 2022.

But DP Ruto and his camp are claiming that the BBI agenda is
a scheme to create positions for individuals, demanding that the report be
subjected to another round of public participation.

They are adamant that Kenyans can turn down BBI agenda like
they did to Aukot’s Punguza Mizigo.

During Madaraka day celebrations in Mombasa, Ruto called on
Kenyans to reject the politics of division and ethnicity, to allow the
Government realizes agenda.
