In efforts to scale up the fight
against coronavirus, Nyamira County Governor John Nyagarama accompanied by
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba distributed hand sanitizers to each of
the 202 boda boda stages located within Nyamira County.
“We have also distributed hand
sanitizers to all health facilities and police stations within Nyamira County
as well as other public places of interest,” Governor Nyagarama said during a
function held on Tuesday morning at the Nyamira County headquarters.
He added, “We will start
distribution of face masks so far received to our boda boda youth as we wait
for the rest which are in production.”
On screening, sensitization and
surveillance, the Governor announced that the County has enhanced screening at
all entry points to the county in Miruka on Homabay-Nyamira Highway,
Ikonge on Kericho-Nyamira Highway, Mwongori on Sotik-Keroka Highway, Birongo on
Kisii-Keroka Highway and Getare on Kisii-Nyamira Highway.
On quarantine and isolation, the
County has enhanced the capacity of the mandatory quarantine rooms at the Kenya
Medical Training College (KMTC) in Nyamira for suspected cases and identified a
dispensary in each of the other four sub-counties to be used for isolation in
case the need for more isolation beds arises.
On infection, prevention and
control, the County has received 100 hand-washing facilities from Aqua Clara
for distribution to all health facilities in Borabu and Masaba North
sub-counties and received hand washing facilities from Lake Victoria South
Water and Development Authority.
Governor Nyagarama also announced
that the County has received 800 litres of alcohol-based hand sanitizers from
the national government through the Kenya Pipeline Corporation and 2000 litres
of alcohol-based hand sanitizers from Kibos Factory in Kisumu.
Further, the county has procured
fumigation chemicals for fumigation of high-risk public places and has ordered
face masks that will be issued to high risk groups.
