Nairobi, Kenya Mogo, a leading financial service provider, has partnered with Spiro, a leading firm specializing in sustainable urban mobility solutions, to educate bodaboda operators nationwide on the economic and environmental benefits of electric motorcycles.

As part of this collaboration, Mogo will facilitate the financing of electric bikes available at its branches and Spiro’s showrooms.

Mr Rauls Leitis, Business Development Project Manager at Mogo, said that the company has already received a batch of e-bikes at its shops in Mombasa County. Prospective customers can visit Mogo’s branches, select their preferred electronic two-wheelers, and drive them out on the same day.

The two firms will also collaborate on marketing initiatives and events to raise awareness about electric bikes, emphasizing their economic and environmental benefits.

“We are thrilled to partner with Spiro, who are at the forefront of Africa’s EV revolution. By combining MOGO’s affordable financing options with Spiro, we are making it easier than ever for Kenyans to access and embrace a greener and more cost-effective way to get around. This collaboration is a testament to MOGO’s unwavering commitment to not only empower individuals but also significantly reduce carbon emissions,” said Mr. Leitis.

On his part, Co-CEO of Spiro Mr. Kaushik Burman said,

“This partnership represents a significant step in Spiro’s journey. As we join forces with Mogo, we are setting a new precedent in sustainable transportation across Africa. Our collaboration is more than just a business venture; it’s a shared commitment to a greener, more sustainable future. We look forward to a fruitful partnership with Mogo and the profound impact it will have in the region.”

Reasons for Mogo-Spiro partnership

The partnership between the two firms aims to meet the rising demand for eco-friendly transportation options, contributing to the broader effort for a cleaner environment and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

It also signifies Spiro’s strategic shift towards becoming an asset-light, energy-as-a-service company. Leveraging brand-agnostic software, Spiro intends to enhance the entire EV ecosystem in Africa, focusing on partnerships with other businesses for fleet management and energy provision.

This comes as the world continues to experience the effects of climate change that have seen various parts of the world affected by extremely high temperatures and flooding. Stakeholders in various sectors of economies are working towards supporting greener production and consumption.
