NAIROBI, Kenya – Owners of light electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, Tuk-Tuks, and light passenger cars, will now enjoy scalable EV charging infrastructure.

This followed Roam’s, Africa’s fastest-growing electric mobility company, move to launch Roam Point, Kenya’s first fast-charging station for any light electric vehicles (LEVs).
The company said Roam Point marks the start of a nationwide rollout of high-speed charging infrastructure, delivering 10-20 km in under five minutes, operating on a self-service model.
Roam’s country manager, Habib Lukaya, said the service enables users to charge on a self-service basis and make payments via SMS, M-PESA (USSD) on a mobile phone, or the Roam App, making it a real-time and accessible option available 24 hours a day.
“The Roam Point builds on the battery ownership model, which gives riders full control of their batteries, allowing them to ‘ride everywhere and charge anywhere’. It adds flexibility to how riders stay charged. Whether it’s home charging, hub rental, or fast charging on the go, we want to empower our riders with the choice that fits their needs,” said Lukaya, in a press statement sent to News Nine.
Lukaya noted that electric vehicle operators have often faced long wait times, limited operating hours, and congestion at swapping and charging stations.
He explained that Roam Point aims to tackle these challenges by offering fast, self-service charging while also solving compatibility issues.
Equipped with Type 6 connectors and open-charge standards, the station works with all light electric vehicles built to the same specifications, giving riders a reliable, universal charging option.
These Roam Points are the first credible solution to scaling up the use of electric vehicles across Kenya through the adoption of common standards, international certification, and interoperability.

Roam is a Kenyan electric mobility company creating transport solutions for Africa.
The company’s 6,000-kilometre solar-powered journey from Nairobi to Stellenbosch on the Roam Air proved the practicality of electric transport.
In 2025, the Financial Times named Roam as Kenya’s fastest-growing company and Africa’s fastest-growing.
