Popular entertainer and political commentator Cassypool has pledged a personal cash reward of KSh 500 to every Harambee Stars player following their historic win against DR Congo in the CHAN 2025 tournament.
The 1–0 victory, which took place on Sunday, August 3, 2025, was a moment of national pride and marked Kenya’s first-ever CHAN triumph on home soil.
Taking to his Instagram page shortly after the final whistle, Cassypool shared his heartfelt reaction to the match. His message was simple, patriotic and full of emotion.
In his eyes, this wasn’t just a win on the pitch; it was a symbol of hope, unity and national progress.
In his video message, Cassypool praised the Harambee Stars players, calling them heroes who had uplifted the spirit of the nation. He then went on to announce his pledge of KSh 500 for every player who participated in the match.
“This is not a huge amount,” he admitted. “But it is a small way of saying thank you. Congratulations Vijana Wetu, you have made us proud. For the first time in history, we’ve won a CHAN match on our home ground. I feel compelled to appreciate you, even if it’s just with KSh 500 each.”

Cassypool emphasised that the gesture was symbolic. It was not about how much money he was giving, but rather the spirit behind it. In his view, support for national heroes shouldn’t be measured in monetary terms alone, but in love, gratitude and recognition.
Cassypool’s post sparked widespread discussion online. While some netizens made light of the KSh 500 figure, others lauded him for taking initiative and showing genuine support for the national team.
True to his outspoken nature, Cassypool didn’t shy away from addressing the mixed reactions.
“You at home might say this is a small amount,” he said, speaking directly to critics. “But ask yourself, as a Kenyan, what have you done to show support to our national team?”
He continued: “It’s not always about money. Even a word of encouragement, showing up to cheer, or simply acknowledging the players’ efforts means a lot. My KSh 500 might seem little, but it comes from a sincere heart.”
Cassypool’s message resonated with many fans who felt that national achievements, especially in sports, often go uncelebrated unless a major figure steps in. His act, though modest in monetary value, was a powerful reminder of the importance of recognising and rewarding effort.
In addition to the public pledge, Cassypool stated that he would be making formal contact with Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohamed. His goal is to ensure that his promised contribution reaches the players directly, without bureaucratic delays or miscommunication.
“I don’t want this to just be talk,” he said. “I want to follow through and make sure that each player gets their appreciation from me,” he stated.
Cassypool expressed hope that his action would encourage more Kenyans, especially those in positions of influence, to step up and support national talent. Whether in sports, arts or innovation, he believes that patriotic gestures no matter how small, can go a long way in uplifting morale and encouraging excellence.
The win against DR Congo is more than just a CHAN group stage result. It signals a resurgence for Kenyan football, a sport that has long suffered from underfunding, mismanagement, and declining public interest. For Cassypool, the victory was proof that with determination, discipline and belief, Kenyan athletes can shine on the continental stage.
His personal contribution is a reflection of that belief. While it might not change the players’ lives financially, it sends a clear message: Kenyans are watching and they care.
