President William Ruto has promised to award each Harambee Stars player for every match won.

Ruto’s pledge came ahead of the 2024 TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) match opener on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
Speaking during a breakfast meeting with the Harambee Stars team at the Pullman Hotel in Nairobi, Ruto promised to give KSh 1 million per player for every match won.
The head of state promised each player KSh 500,000 for every draw, KSh 60 million for the team upon reaching the quarterfinals and KSh 70 million for the semis.
Football Federation of Kenya (FKF) welcomed the president’s pledge, saying it is a strong show of support and encouragement to the team.
FKF said it remains committed to working closely with the government to elevate Kenyan football and wishes the team the very best as they represent the country.
Harmbee Stars plays against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in their match opener at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Harambee Stars Squad
Harambee Stars Coach Benni McCarthy made changes to the 25-man squad as the team make CHAN debut.
McCarthy included Shabana FC midfielder Brian Michira, Tusker FC’s Chrispin Errambo and Sofapaka forward Edward Omondi, replacing Mohammed Bajaber, Swaleh Pamba and Brian Musa, who withdrew from the team.
The CHAN 2024 squad, according to FKF, include:
