US Coronavirus Updates: President Donald Trump accepts reality, ditching Easter target

US President Donald Trump has accepted reality that
Coronavirus, commonly known to him as Chinese Virus, will go beyond his
anticipated Easter target of bringing the pandemic down.

According to CNN, Trump extended social distancing
guidelines to April 30, even as COVID-9 cases continue to surge in the country.

Americans have to remain under shut down for a period of one
months, or even more depending on the current state of the virus spread.

Trump, who a month ago was predicting a miracle that would
just make the virus go away, was presented with cataclysmic figures that 2.2
million Americans could die if he indulged his itch to start reopening the
economy in the coming week, writes CNN.

“Nothing would be worse than declaring victory before
the victory is won,” Trump said on Sunday.

The current restrictions are due to expire today (Monday) as
the president anticipated to open up the economy.

CNN adds that, Trump’s decision to listen to his advisers
will relieve public health officials and emergency physicians countrywide and
shows that he is, in extremis, willing to listen to science — in a way that
would be a given for most presidents but has not been so for a commander-in-chief
who has so often blurred truth.

In the presser on Sunday, President Trump accused health
workers of stealing surgical masks amid huge shortages brought on by terrible
conditions in hospitals.

He also accused states of “hoarding” ventilators.

COVID-19 death toll in America has hit over 2000 people,
with the nation’s top infectious disease expert warning that based on models,
the United States could eventually see 100,000 or more deaths.
