Former president Uhuru Kenyatta has been connected to the Arror and Kimwarer Dam scandal.

The multi-billion shillings dam project saw former Treasury CS Henry Rotich, Kenya Voluntary Development Association (KVDA) former Managing Director David Kimosop and seven others charged with defrauding the government over KSh 56.4 billion.

According to a KVDA specialist, Uhuru signed the papers in 2009 when he was the finance minister.

The court further heard that former ministers John Michuki and Fred Gumo signed the implementation of the project in 2008.

On Monday, September 19, Anti-Corruption Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi heard that the accused conspired in awarding tenders to the Italian firm CMC di Ravenna-Itinera Joint Ventures.

About 32 witnesses are lined up by the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution.

DPP Noordin Haji had charged 24 individuals but later slashed the number to 9, leaving out former Treasury PS Kamau Thugge and others.

Government set aside KSh 80b for small dams

In 2019, News 9 Kenya reported that the government set aside KSh 80 billion to build small dams in a bit to cushion Kenyans from the impacts of drought.

Agriculture Ministry planned to build 31 dams in drought-stricken areas and curb water shortage and improve food security in the country.
