The government through the ministry of education is ready to roll out Grade Five in the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) as earlier planned.

This comes even as the Teachers Service Commission plans to undertake a-12-day training of 18,000 teachers ahead of the roll-out, starting November 23 to December 5.

In circular distributed to schools, TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia said the training will be conducted as school terms progresses, and county support and CBC champion training run from November 23 to 28.

“This training will be carried out as the school terms progresses on the stipulated dates,” read the circular in part.

The training of tutors at the zonal level and those in special schools will run from November 29 to December 5, as head teachers given priority on the first day.

“The National Master Trainers will train the Curriculum Support Officers and CBC Champions at the County Level and thereafter offer professional support to the CSOs and CBC champions in the Zonal teacher training and SNE training venues,” continued the circular.

The teacher employer intends to use the same CBC champion used in 2019.

The commission has so far trained 339,743 teachers on the new curriculum.

Grade Five roll out is expected soon as Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang’ confirmed delivery of all books to schools last week.
