Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris has come out to defend herself after being booed during yesterday’s demonstrations in Nairobi against femicide.
Passaris has claimed the crowd booed her for political reasons.
“I was being booed because I was the available punching bag to let out frustrations and settle political scores. Not because ‘you did little too late’.”
In a video seen by News9 Kenya, the crowd was heard chanting ‘where were you, what did you do’.

The women representative was among those present yesterday in Nairobi during demonstrations protesting the increased cases of women being murdered in the country by men.
She added that she was part of the team that organized the protest.
“I have been on a planning wall with CSOS for the Femicide March from inception. @NGAAF_KE and my entire team stood up to be counted as mandated. We finished the march strong. Now back to work knowing we are all part of the solution and the problem.”
Responding to the press during the protest, Passaris urged President William Ruto to speak on the increasing number of women being killed in the country.
How many women have been killed in Kenya this year?
Before January even ends, at least five women have been killed and these are only the reported cases. However, two of the murders, Rita Waeni’s and Starlet Wahu’s, have hit headlines and attracted the attention of many.
The murders have caused an uproar from the public and yesterday, January 27, Kenyans in various parts of the country, men and women, went to the streets to protect the killing of women.
Wahu’s lifeless body was found in an apartment in Nairobi while Waeni’s body was dismembered with her head found in a dam in Kiambaa, Kiambu. Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor, in the case of Waeni, said he had never seen something like that.
Suspects of the two murders have been arrested and investigations are ongoing.
According to Femicide Count Kenya, there were 152 cases of femicide in 2023 and January 2024 has started on a bad note.
