The Kenya
Certificate for Primary Education results has been released with much praises
poured to teachers.
Speaking at
Mutihani House Nairobi, education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha
said the teachers did an excellent work in this year’s KCPE in ensuring that
pupils performs better.
The CS said there
were minimal exam malpractices compared to previous years, courtesy of teacher’s
collaboration.
Teachers Service
Commission CEO Nancy Macharia commended teachers for their unending efforts to
support pupils and the ministry, adding that 99 per cent of them did their work
during the examination period.
“TSC will
soon recognize teachers who took extra ordinary steps to stop exam malpractices
during this year’s examination period,” said MS. Maharia.
The CEO said
that the commission has recruited 5000 secondary teachers and will add 10,000
interns to address the issue of teachers’ shortage.
“We are
working on 2021/2025 CBA for improved terms for the teachers, as well as
equipping the teachers to handle the CBC,” said the TSC boss.
Top student
The top
student in the concluded 2019 KCPE is Andy Michael Munyeri from Damacrest
School in Thogoto, who scored 440 marks.
Munyeri was
followed by three other candidates who tied at position two with 439 marks. They
include Flavian Onyango, June Cheptoo Koech of Sing’aro Girls and Sean Michael
Ndung’u of Kitengela International.
1,088,986
candidates sat for the 2019 KCPE examinations which began on October 28 and
ended on October 31, 2019, with a total of 527,294 boys (50.1%) and 525,070
girls (49.9 %) sitting for the examinations.
This year
results record a drop in the number of candidates who scored 400 marks from
11,000 in 2018 to 9,770.
Boys performed
better in Mathematics, Science and Social Studies as girls triumphed in
languages including the Kenya Sign Language.
