KAKAMEGA, Kenya – Royal Media Services (RMS) journalist John Wanyama has caused a stir online, warming the hearts of many after he gifted his constituents pairs of shoes.
Wanyama is among politicians who have declared their interest in the Malava parliamentary seat currently held by David Ndakwa of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

However, the journalist warmed the hearts of many on Saturday, April 18, 2026, after gifting a yet-to-be-identified man his own pair of shoes when he attended the retirement ceremony of East Kabras Location Chief Moses Bateta in Malava.
“My great people of Malava, if you look at the pair of shoes that this man is wearing, they cannot be compared to mine because his are in bad shape. Should I go back to Eldoret so that I can bring him a new pair of shoes?” Wanyama asked the crowd, who unanimously declined.
It was at this moment that Wanyama removed the pair of shoes that he was wearing and gave them to the man, to the delight of the crowd.
“Our child, may God bless you so that one day, you will also gift a pair of shoes to someone else,” Wanyama told the overjoyed man. Netizens who watched the now-viral clip couldn’t help but laud the journalist-turned politician for his generous gesture.

The same scenario played out the following day, Sunday, April 19, 2026, when Wanyama yet again donated his pair of shoes to a church leader when he attended a Sunday mass at the Church of the Lord in Shirugu-Mugai Ward.
“Sharing in faith, unity, and hope for a better Malava,” said Wanyama after the church service.
John Wanyama goes after MP David Ndakwa
In a related story, news9.africa earlier reported that Ndakwa came under harsh criticism over delays in the disbursement of National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) bursaries, causing distress among students facing school fee deadlines.
news9.africa understands that despite MPs like Ndakwa receiving Sh 10 billion in NG-CDF money, many deserving students remain unpaid, raising concerns about equitable distribution.
Addressing the press in Malava town, Wanyama took Ndakwa to task, accusing him of undermining equitable access to educational support in the area.
“Our MP (Ndakwa) asked people to pick CDF forms for the bursary disbursement. People filled these forms. However, it is unfortunate that the other day, the MP went to the media claiming that there was no money to pay for the bursaries for the less privileged families who are the voters,” lamented Wanyama.
But according to Ndakwa, a significant portion of the available NG-CDF had been allocated to development projects within the constituency, leaving only Sh 3 million for bursaries.
