Nairobi, Kenya – President William Ruto has congratulated Mohammed Abdullahi Warsame as the new Supreme Court judge.

Justice Warsame was sworn in as the 14th judge of the apex court at Statehouse, Nairobi, on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
Speaking during the ceremony, the head of state assured full support to the judge as he carries out his mandate in serving the nation.
“I am confident that your vast experience will make a positive impact on Kenya’s apex court. You have my full support and prayers as you begin this important chapter of service to our nation,” said Ruto.
Who are the 7 judges of Supreme Court of Kenya
Justice Warsame joined six other judges led by the Chief Justice (CJ) Martha Koome. Together, they form a bench of seven judges, including CJ Martha Koome, Deputy CJ Philomena Mwilu, Justices Smokin Wanjala, Njoki Ndung’u, Isaac Lenaola, William Ouko and Mohammed Abdullahi Warsame.
Ruto appointed Warsame as judge of the Supreme Court on May 6, 2026, who successfully passed the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) vetting process.
He takes the place of the late Justice Mohammed Ibrahim, who passed away in December 2025.
The judge has served in different capacities in the judiciary, including the Court of Appeal judge (2012-2026) and High Court judge (2003-2012).
The president also pronounced best wishes to Evans Thiga Gaturu and Jedidah Wakonyo Waruhiu on their conferment of Senior Counsel status.
Ruto’s message to Supreme Court
The commander-in-chief of the armed forces urged Justice Warsame and the other judges of the apex court to exercise diligence, wisdom and integrity in discharging their duties.
“Your conduct, diligence, wisdom, and integrity will play a defining role in shaping the next chapter in the evolution of this vital institution and in deepening public trust and confidence in the rule of law,” he said.
Ruto congratulated the court for maintaining a steadfast role for more than one and a half decades, discharging solemn mandate, consistently affirming the supremacy of the Constitution, safeguarding the sovereignty of the people of Kenya, and defending the independence of the judiciary.
