TRANS NZOIA, Kenya – Vocal Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi is expected to host a group of opposition-aligned leaders in promoting alternative forms of economic and political empowerment among Kenyans.
News 9 Kenya has established that the event dubbed “Kikao Na Mama” will bring together over 20 lawmakers and will be held at Lukhome Grounds, Saboti, in Trans Nzoia County on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
Among the notable leaders who will grace the event are Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary-general Edwin Sifuna, who doubles as the Nairobi Senator, and MPs Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri), Tim Wanyonyi (Westlands), and Babu Owino (Embakasi East).
Others are Jack Wamboka (Bumula), Majimbo Kalasinga (Kabuchai), Wilberforce Oundo (Funyula), Mohamed Ali (Nyali) and Peter Salasya (Mumias East), among others.
“This is a high-profile women empowerment event dubbed Kikao na Mama Mboga — a gathering that merges social impact with strong political undertones ahead of the 2027 general elections. Kenya needs a renaissance,” Amisi, elected on an ODM ticket, said ahead of the event.

The event comes when leaders allied to the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration have continued to defend Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s ongoing empowerment programs across the country, dismissing criticism from the opposition as baseless and politically motivated.
For instance, speaking recently during a relief food distribution exercise in Chemolingot and Kolowa, Tiaty constituency in Baringo County, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku lashed out at Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of engaging in “cheap politics” and lacking a substantive development agenda.
CS Ruku, who led the government team in the relief effort, said the empowerment program spearheaded by DP Kindiki was a well-thought-out initiative aimed at uplifting communities and enhancing government-citizen engagement.
“After years in leadership, including serving as vice president, you have little to show. Now that Kenyans are witnessing results from this empowerment initiative, some are getting uncomfortable. The people can now see the difference between leadership that works and rhetoric,” said CS Ruku.
When reached for comment, Kakamega-based political analyst Charles Kelly took a swipe at leaders who have been at the forefront in spearheading the empowerment programs, accusing them of collecting the money after dishing it out to the groups.
“Our leaders are using these initiatives as an avenue of corruption where they give out money through their accounts and later collect it back for their benefit, leaving the so-called beneficiaries with almost nothing to share,” Kelly, better known as CK, told Nine News.
Meanwhile, News Nine understands that this is not the first time that MP Amisi is hosting a women’s empowerment program in his Saboti backyard.
In May 2023, the youthful legislator held a similar event at the Kenya Ministry Training Institute (KMTI), Kitale, where he accused the President William Ruto-led government of attempting to tax Kenyans to prosperity.
“You can never tax a nation to prosperity. All you need to have are strategies to grow and strengthen the economy. We need to start by looking at the cost of living,” MP Amisi said.
The MP has also previously empowered over 800 women who received sewing machines from him in a move aimed at boosting their income-generating activities.
