NAIROBI, Kenya – Vocal Saboti MP Caleb Amesi has taken issue with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi after he rewarded former Malava parliamentary aspirant Rhyan Injendi Malulu with a plum government position.
Rhyan is among the candidates who lost in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) primaries ahead of the by-elections slated for Thursday, November 27, 2025.

“We can do politics all we want, but playing around with the lives of young people with UDA lies must stop. Appointment of Hon. Rhyan Injedi Malulu as a Trade Attaché in South Africa-Trade attachés are not dished out on the campaign trail. They are seconded by various ministries,” said the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP.
While campaigning for the UDA candidate, David Ndakwa, in Malava on Monday, November 24, 2025, Mudavadi, who doubles as the Diaspora and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, handed his mobile phone to Ryhan to confirm his appointment.
“Congratulations on your appointment as a Trade Attaché in Pretoria, South Africa.
Pursuant to this communication, the Ministry has proposed the appointment of Mr. Rhyan Injedi Malulu as a Kenyan attaché to the Kenyan embassy in Pretoria, South Africa.” Rhyan read out the text message to the delight of the crowd.
How Musalia Mudavadi defended Rhyan’s appointment
Mudavadi strongly defended his appointment, saying that he was qualified for the job.
“Now, did he (Rhyan) pursue a course in finance and banking, and does he understand economy and business? Now, he is the one who would manage Kenya’s trade in South Africa. He is the one who will link us to the businesses in South Africa and bring them here to Kenya. Any Kenyan who wants to do business in South Africa should pass through him to understand the process,” Mudavadi explained.
But in a quick rejoinder, MP Amisi questioned Mudavadi if he wanted all youth in Kenya on internships, working in ministries, and those who have graduated to run for elections, drop their bid midway, and get an employment letter on WhatsApp.
“Which country is this, bwana? Rhyan, you are young; avoid these old men. They have lied to a whole Luyha community for 40 years and the country for 60 years. Run, brother, run for your dear life. Kenya needs a renaissance!” the youthful MP advised Rhyan.
Who else has benefited from the government appointments
Apart from Rhyan, Mudavadi also announced the appointment of another UDA aspirant who lost in Malava primaries, Simon Kangwana, who will serve as Education Attaché at the Kenyan Mission in Uganda.
The duo are among three aspirants promised government positions by President William Ruto in exchange for backing Ndakwa, the ruling party’s candidate in the Malava by-election.
The by-election was triggered by the death of Malava MP Malulu Injendi. Ndakwa is set to contest the Malava seat under the UDA banner.
Another aspirant, Leonard Shimaka, was appointed in October 2025 as a Commissioner at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for a three-year term.
