Swazuri out of custody on Sh 21M cash bail

Former National Land Commission chair Mohammad Swazuri has
been released on a sh12million cash bail or alternative bond of Sh 30million.

Swazuri was arrested on Wednesday April 17 and on Thursday charged
at a Milimani court with irregular land compensation.

The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji stated that
he had adequate evidence to charge the former NLC chairman and 23 others over compensation
claim to Tornado Carriers Limited in respect to compulsory acquisition of a
piece of land in Mombasa.

They were charged with conspiracy to commit an economic offence,
abuse of office, financial misconduct, money laundering, fraudulent acquisition,
and dealing with suspect property.

The arrests came after EACC got an anonyms tip about irregular
payments to NLC officials , private persons, and entities.
