TURKANA, Kenya – The annual Turkana Cultural Festival has been moved to a later date.
The event was set for December 1st to 4th, 2025. However, in a statement, the County Chief Officer of the department of Tourism/Culture and Heritage, John Ayangan Korikel, said the 9th edition of the Turkana Cultural Festival (Tobong’u Lore) had been rescheduled for December 15 to 18, 2025, at the Ekalees Centre in Lodwar town, Turkana Central.

“The event will be graced by President William Ruto on December 16, 2025. In the ATEKER SPIRIT, we warmly invite our neighbouring counties, countries and the entire world to join us to celebrate this event. Welcome all. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” Korikel announced.
The festival’s planning committee, chaired by the County Executive for Trade, Tourism, Youth and Gender Affairs, Wangiros James, revealed that this year’s theme will be “Cradle of Humanity: Home of Culture—A Journey Through Turkana.”
Known for its rich Ateker cultural display, local and international exhibitions, trade showcases, and side meetings on cross-border peace and diplomacy, this will be the ninth edition since the festival’s inception in 2015.
What is expected of the Turkana County Government departments
With the announcement, all County Government departments and partners are expected to accelerate activities and support to ensure the event’s success.
The festival, which has since become part of Kenya’s national tourism and cultural events calendar, is expected to draw members of the Ateker communities from Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia, alongside visitors from across the region and beyond.
The Miss Director of Culture, Boniface Korobe, confirmed that this year’s event will maintain its traditional style of music and dance, cultural events, sports, speeches from leaders and guests and the Miss Tourism Beauty Pageant. New events and activities will also be unveiled
