The online Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) application portal will open soon for placement of students to institutions of higher learning.

Students who completed KCSE examinations will be placed in universities, Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions, Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Teachers Training College (TTC), and Open University of Kenya (OUK), depending on their choice.

According to KUCCPS, the KCSE class of 2023 and other form four leavers (KCSE 2000 to 2022) can apply to be placed in different learning institutions, colleges and universities.

Where can KCSE students apply to join universities and colleges?

Qualified students will be able to apply for placement in universities and colleges by clicking on this link students.kuccps.net.

201,133 students scored a C+ and above in the 2023 KCSE examinations, qualifying them a direct entry into universities.

Which institutions can a student apply to be placed in?

There are 39 public universities, 30 private universities, 237 public colleges in the Ministry of Education, 116 public colleges in other ministries, and 11 university TVETs in which a student can apply to be placed.

The education ministry under Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu

As the KCSE class of 2023 and older classes wait to apply for placement in institutions of higher learning, the education ministry has had its share of challenges under Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.

It started with challenges in the KCPE 2023 results with some schools rejecting results from the ministry and there being a mismatch of subjects for some learners.

With the 2023 KCSE results, there were 4,109 cases of cheating. 48,174 students scored an E and Machogu was pained, asking for an investigation into the reasons why the number was high.

Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang in late January also led a search for students who scored an E in the 2023 KCSE exams to have them join TVETs.

On the other hand, 201,133 students scored a C+ and above, qualifying them a direct entry into universities. For the first time, schools and students accessed their KCSE results online.

However, a petition filed on January 30, 2024, at the Milimani Law Courts by a community-based organization called Operation Linda Jamii sued the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) over the 2023 KCSE results.

The organisation questioned the credibility and integrity of KNEC in tabulating the results of the 2023 KCSE exams.

KUCCPS was enjoined in the case and the petitioner sought conservatory orders to stop the placement of students in universities and colleges.

It remains to be seen how the placement process will go on as students wait patiently to apply for placement.
