University, college placement: KUCCPS extends application deadline

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) has extended the deadline to February 26 to allow more time for students to apply for placement in various institutions of higher learning.

The KUCCPS online portal was opened on February 7, 2024, but some students have had a hard time completing their applications with some having to apply at night.

In a statement, KUCCPS CEO Agnes Mercy Wahome said,

“In the spirit of ensuring that no one is left behind, KUCCPS has extended the application deadline to February 26, 2024.”

The initial deadline was previously on February 22.

However, Wahome clarified that,

“Only the 2023 candidates can apply for degree programmes in universities. Those from other years can apply for courses offered at the Open University of Kenya, TVETs, Teachers Training Colleges and the Kenya Medical Training College.”

KCSE candidates of 2023 and other years (2000-2022) can log in to students.kuccps.net and apply for available programmes.

According to the placement service, there are courses for all KCSE grades, A to E.

Wahome also noted that the “number of applicants selecting degree programmes is higher than those applying for TVET courses so far”, urging those with mean grades between C and E to take advantage of the available TVET opportunities.

Principal Secretary of Education Belio Kipsang in January led a team in searching for students who scored an E in the 2023 KCSE examinations to have them join TVETs.

201,133 students scored a mean grade of C+ and above in the 2023 KCSE examinations, qualifying them a direct entry into universities

However, 48,174 students scored an E, something that pained Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu who asked for investigations into the high number.

KCSE students will be placed in universities, Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions, Kenya Medical Training Colleges (KMTC), Teachers Training College (TTC), and Open University of Kenya (OUK), depending on their choice.
