Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has condemned the heckling by Kiambu residents during President William Ruto’s tour in the county on Wednesday.
While attributing heckling to ODM followers, Gachagua told residents of the area not to forget central Kenya’s nature of showing respect and listening to leaders regardless of their rank or where they come from.
“This behavior of heckling in front of the king is not a behavior of the Mt Kenya people. That is ODM behavior, and as your leader, I don’t want to see that again, ” he pointed out.
He continued to affirm that the residents should embrace silence when their leaders are speaking rather than partaking in giving aggressive comments.
“When the governor stands to speak, listen to what he has to say, and when Kimani Ichung’wah speaks, listen. If you disagree with what was said, keep quiet,” he said.
Gachagua further referred to President Ruto as the king and said any move like the recent one had left him embarrassed as the leader of Mt Kenya.
“This is our king, the president of Kenya. He has come to bring development to our area. You are bringing shame in front of the president of the republic of Kenya in an area where we are honorable people. I have been embarrassed as the leader of Mt Kenya, ” he added.
Ruto was on his development tour in Kiambu County before disagreements over policy issues among Kiambu local leaders emerged.
He intervened and asked the leaders especially those elected to channel their energy to service delivery to their electorate and defer 2027 succession politics and embrace patience.
“Let’s calm down on political matters particularly those of 2027. As your leader, I ask you to remain calm and patient as things progress. I want to assure you that I will hold a meeting to plan a successful approach to politics and end the fighting.”
Several leaders in Kiambu County, including Senator Karungo Wa Thangwa and Woman Representative Ann Wamuratha have expressed their discontent on how affairs in the county are being managed.
